Individual Therapy

I see my role as helping you reduce the emotional distress that may be arising as a result of challenging and stressful experiences and events in your life.

In our conversations, we would look at why you’ve come and what you’d like to achieve. I’ll ask you about your life and the circumstances you find yourself in. Together we'll explore what's been happening and how the events in your life and past have shaped you and may have affected how you’re dealing with things currently. We will begin to explore your difficulties together to see what changes may need to be made to help you move on in your life.

Some problems you may be grappling with

  • Mental health issues - like depression, stress, anxiety, low mood and panic attacks
  • Work-related problems – associated with the stresses of a demanding and challenging role, a tricky work situation, redundancy or sudden unemployment
  • Family issues – for example, difficult relationships; illness of a family member; caring for elderly parents; a disagreement with a family member or members that seem impossible to resolve; or additional responsibilities which are difficult to cope with.
  • Relationship and marriage problems – including separation, divorce or the ending of a long-term relationship
  • Friendships and social relationships – and the difficulties that can arise in making or maintaining friends or engaging in social situations
  • Bereavement and grief - from the loss of a partner, close family member or friend
  • Health problems - especially if you are off sick from work or returning to work after a sickness absence
  • A traumatic life event or events - including sexual assault and abuse or an unexpected event for which you were unprepared.

What will happen in the session

Our conversations will give you some time for yourself, time during which you can think about what is happening, try and find solutions to your problems, and identify ways to navigate the complex issues you are coping with.

The benefit of having such time is that it gives you a chance to express your feelings and be heard without being judged. It provides an opportunity to find ways to cope; develop ideas on how to move forward and evolve the skills to work through the issues that underlie the problems you are facing.

How counselling can work for you

I offer counselling as a resource which you can access in accordance with your needs. The frequency of sessions would be agreed upon together.

If you would like to work on a particular aspect of yourself or your life and you think that weekly counselling would be beneficial for you, then we can arrange a certain number of sessions either for an agreed period or on an open-ended basis if you would like to work longer-term.

Alternatively, you can simply book in to see me as-and-when you feel it would be helpful for you.
